Do you need to start it off, or should I do a captain's log to recap stuff?

It's up to you. You can either just post in character Chase's reaction or start the next post with a Captain's Log before posting in character. Or post just a Captain's Log to recap recent events and I'll chime in afterwards. Whichever seems most fitting to you.

Basically with the end of each chapter, think of it as the episode going to commercial. The story really picks up speed in the next chapter.

I finally updated the placeholder post from February for our session in January. I'm a bad GM. Sorry.

Look it over and see if I've left anything out that you remember from the session. A lot of what I filled in is directly from the script. If there's anything I left out let me know here and I'll update the post.

That concludes Part 3 of 5 of the Pilot episode. I'll kick off part 4 tonight. It'll start with a short scene on the Enterprise before cutting to our hero on the U.S.S. Venture, as it navigates the omega field. That's where you'll enter again.

1. The Alcoholic friend. (human)

Could be on the current ship, or used to serve under Chase on the Feynman. Think of Freddy Rumson from 'Mad Men'. Although, I actually really like the idea that he is in some sort of 26th century version of Alcoholics Anonymous. The point is he's a good friend but unreliable.

NAME: Lt Steven Rumsfeld.

2. The Ex. (Bajoran? are they still around?)

An ex lover from his academy days. BUT unlike all the exes of Kirk and Picard, she dumped him. Maybe this made Chase into more of a loner.

NAME: Make her what ever Rank fits the story: Bareil Nerys

3. The Sponsor. (Human, a Janeway type.)

She's like a favorite aunt, but was also pretty high up in Starfleet. She was the one who helped get Chase in the Academy, and now she's who he turns to for advice. But she's retired, so she's not his boss either.

NAME: Lois Turner.

Those sound good. I reserve the right to tweak them as needed.

Updates of the session recap underway. Hopefully completed  tonight, with a new post to move us along.

I've updated the most recent Session Recap. Look it over and see if I've left out anything of import.

Note that I broke it into two posts: one covering through the end of Part 4 (which we completed before the end of the session) and one covering the beginning of Part 5, where we left off.

I'll post shortly to move us along.

Did Chase still want the Dragonfly to launch from the Venture once the Enterprise showed up? If so, do they want to just return to the Enterprise or engage the Verlicon?

Let me know if you have any questions about my last post. Remember, the crew needs orders to do most anything. Currently the Enterprise is on full red alert and has taken a defensive position between the Venture and Verlicon ships.

As to the Tactical Pit, the floor is sensitive to your character and the NPCs. This comes in handy when the ship is hit (which I'm willing to bet will happen soon). It feels like the floor of one of those new playgrounds where the flooring is made out of old tires.  Kinda spongy with some give, but still firm enough to walk on without issue, not like walking on a water bed or in a bounce house.

Note on Red Alert Status:

Whenever the ship is on Red Alert, a squad of Red Shirts immediately take up position on the bridge. This is to act as space marines, to repel any boarding parties that might try to access the bridge, either by forcing their way onto the bridge or to beam onto the bridge directly. The squad is made up of 6 Ensign level Red Shirts. They'll take up ready positions near the turbo-lifts, tactical pit, and captain's chair. They are armed with phase rifles.

Regarding the armament of the U.S.S. Enterprise, aside from the classic phasers and photon torpedoes we all know and love, in the Pilot Episode the ship is also equipped with an additional weapon: an emitter array beam that has the power to cut through ships! It is unclear as to the limitations of this beam. I imagine it’s available for short bursts only, probably only effective on un-shielded targets. Maybe it’s used for orbital bombardments. It’s more or less a super phaser. Use it however you want.
Let me know in a little detail how you want the Enterprise continue in this battle. I’ve been running the battle mostly, but really as the lone player you should be acting as commander, pilot, weapons specialist, etc. during this portion of the game. Tell where the ship should go and what it should do (at the end of your IC posts in [OOC]).

As a note, the lead Verlicon ship still has full shields up, as it has not been engaged yet. So no transporting directly onto the ship at this time. The second smaller Verlicon ship has no shields or weapons at this time. The Dragonfly with Donal's Red Shirts will take off after this next round.

[OOC:
Basically, I want the Enterprise to get close to the lead ship so we can bombard it to knock out its shields as quickly as possible. So after we cut through the small ship, I'd like to move us in position. ]

I decided to take this idea and modify it a little, by having the Dragonfly punch through the flagship’s shields first. At least so we can get to the boarding party a bit quicker. I’ll still have the Enterprise continue to engage the flagship to knock out her shields via bombardment. But at least this way while we do that, Donal and her Red Shirts can start fucking stuff up on the other ship. Plus once the shields are down you can transport re-enforcements over.
