Stars Without Number or HeroQuest?
« on: August 06, 2015, 09:49:43 PM »

Thinking of rocking out with some sandbox sci-fi or some Story-driven fantasy. I'm thinking either game would be great for PBP. In either case, the premise would be Robin Hood Revenge.

Any interest?

SWN still sounds interesting.

No idea about Hero Quest, never heard of it.

Yeah, HQ is more of a story-game.  In a nutshell, you describe your character, underline keywords/phrases and choose from some predefined for the campaign. So "Elf" would be a keyword with a set of abilities ("night vision", "archery", " good hair "). But you might also have "Silvertongued tunesmith" or something as a rated ability....anything you could solve problems with.

A common example: Sam Gamgee has "loyal to Mr. Frodo" which he can use in a contest against Golem's "PRECIOUS!" or several orcs "Meat is back on the menu!" You resolve conflicts not tasks, so Sam going up the stairs to rescue Frodo is what is at stake in the combat on the stairs with the orcs so that is the conflict resolved with dice, not a series of attacks and dodges. The idea in pbp would be I set a difficulty for the conflict the player defines, provide a difficulty, then the player rolls and succeeds or fails to a certain degree and gets to narrate the outcome.

SWN is sooo cool though.
